  1. Aboriginal art is from the Australian 
  2. Aborigines. Traditionally almost 
  3. entirely religious and ceremonial, it was
  4. directed towards portraying stories of the
  5. Dreamtime, a creation mythology reflecting
  6. the Aboriginal hunter-gatherer lifestyle.
  7. Perishable materials were used, as in bark
  8. painting and carved trees and logs, and few
  9. early works of this type have survived. 
  10. A great deal of rock art remains intact.
  11. Aboriginal art forms one of the richest
  12. continuing traditions in the world.  
  13. Body painting was also practised, chiefly
  14. as part of secret initiation rites.
